Statistics is an application oriented subject, Which is widely used in all disciplines. It serves as an important tool in the analysis and presentation of information.

In the year 2018, M.Sc.(Applied Statistics) was introduced with an intake of 47 students.

The demand for the subject is increasing day by day as it is useful for higher learning.Since the subject is practical oriented, to inculcate research attitude, the students in the department are encouraged to take up group projects.

Department offers add-on courses designed to meet the necessities of the industry. To name a few Bio-Statistics, Data Analytics using Python & R.

Department offers research analysis for projects & research scholars using SPSS, also offers skill development programs.

The Department has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the company Sigma India Pvt. Ltd.

The Department takes initiative to make the students involve in doing Major Research Projects, Which help them in Statistical analysis. The Staff and Students presented papers in National & International Conference.

Students won OGA Gold medals for securing highest marks. Most of our students got recruited into government sector and also top MNC companies like TCS, Infosys, Amazon & Wipro.

  • Guest lecture by Sri. Y. V. Rao garu, Market Research Officer, Textile Committee, Govt. of India, Ministry of textiles on 24th August 2023. Sir started with a brief introduction about different fabrics used in production of clothing. He next emphasized on different statistical methods used in Textile industry for conducting MTC(Market for Textile & Clothing ) survey, survey methodology, sampling design, data verification, data entry, cleaning and consistency, estimation procedure, data analysis and report generation with real life examples. He discussed about the importance of statistics in textile industry.

  • Seminar titled “Roadmap to become a Data Scientist & Career opportunities” to commemorate the birth anniversary of Prof. P. C. Mahalanobis as National Statistics Day on 29th June 2024. Resource Person Mr. Venkata Ikkurthy Manager, Clinical Data Integration, Bayer Pharma, USA discussed about how to become a data scientist. His session was more interactive, rather than only subject oriented. He explained what courses or programs have to be learnt so as to master in data science. He even showed various career opportunities that can be persuade once the graduation is completed. Sir has shown live demonstration on how to use SAS programming.

L.N. Yashaswy. A,Doctoral Candidate in Marketing, IIM Ahmedabad presented a webinar on 17th July 2021, titled as “Overview of R-Programming”. The speaker emphasized on the importance and applications of R programming language. He explained the basics of coding in R programming by considering different examples. He also stressed on the syntaxes and rules of using R programming. He also explained the procedures of importing the documents and explained how to save the programs after getting the output. Difference between R programming & Python was also discussed.

Dr.RameshAthe,Assistant Professor,IIIT Dharwad, Karnataka,Department of Data Science and Intelligence Systems presented a webinar on 18th Sep 2021 titled as “Introduction to Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis”. The speaker emphasized on the applications of statistics in Meta-Analysis and discussed real life examples. He also explained the importance of doing research and emphasized on paper publications. He gave few tips for choosing the objective of study and showed the procedure of navigating through PubMed applications.

Dr. DebarshiDey, Associate Director,MorphosysAG, Munich,Germany presented a webinar on 29thJune 2020, titled as “How to Become Effective Statisticians”. The speaker emphasized on the applications of statistics in Pharmacuetical Industry and gave few tips to become an effective statistician. He also discussed real examples and explained the statistical tools to be applied in pharmaceutical field. He also encouraged students to become data analysts.

Prof.A.Dhandapani, Professor and Principal scientist at ICAR-NAARM presented a webinar on 27th May 2020, titled as “ National Webinar on Statistics & Agriculture”. Speaker emphasized on the real life applications of Statistics in the field of agriculture. Sir shared a different perspective of statistics and discussed different examples in Agriculture and Design of Experiments using Statistics. He also explained different statistical tools used in the analysis of Designs of Experiment and Agriculture.

SVSRK BHARADWAJ, Senior Manager - Operations, Sigma Research and Consulting New Delhi, India organized a two day Workshop on 28/12/2019 & 29/12/2019, titled as “ Skill Development Program on Survey Data Analysis Using SPSS”. The speaker emphasized on various methods used in SPSS. The speaker gave a brief idea on skill development, research design, selection of a sample, data collection, selection of respondent’s etc. Many real life examples were also given for easy understanding of the students.

Dr. D. Lalitha Devi, Head, Associate Professor,Department of Statistics,KGCW presented a seminar on 25/10/2018, titled as “ Steps involved in Quantitative Research”. The speaker emphasized on various methods used in quantitative research. The speaker gave a brief idea on hypothesis, research design, selection of a research site, data collection, selection of respondent’s etc. Many real life examples were also given for easy understanding of the students.

Ms. K. Sangeetha , Assistant Professor, departmet of statistics , KGCW presented a seminar on 20 September 2017, titled as “ Sampling Designs and Method of Data Collection”. The Speaker Emphasized on various designs of samples and collection of data by using statistics techniques. The speaker explained real life applications with suitable examples.

The Department signed an MoU with “Sigma India.org – an Analytics Company” to facilitate students for Internships and skill based training programs / workshops on the recent updates in the field of statistics.

Advanced learners are encouraged for Internships to work with real time data for practical application of the subject.

Seminars / Workshops / Skill based training programs are conducted for the benefit of the students to create a platform for understanding the recent changes in the subject.

On the occasion of National Statistics Day 2023 students participated in Quiz and Elocution competitions organised by NSSO and won prizes

On the occasion of Women's Day Celebrations 2023, the students of Statistics Dept. have attended a seminar on “ Data Science and Its Prospectus” held at Indian Statistical Institute, Hubsiguda, Hyderabad.

On the occasion of National Statistic Day Celebrations 2022, The Department of Statistics released a customized calendar and e-newsletter (Sankhya Samachar).

On the occasion of National Statistic Day Celebrations 2022, the students of Dept. Of statistics participated in quiz competition and essay writing competitions conducted by NSSO. Students got to know about National sample survey office and its functions, also had discussion with NSSO chief.
