The inception of the Department of Botany dates back to 1973. It boasts a meticulously maintained laboratory that is not only well-ventilated but also furnished with state-ofthe-art equipment, including LCD screens and internet connectivity. Furthermore, the department takes pride in its well-managed library,

ensuring that students have access to valuable resources. In addition to these facilities, the Department of Botany maintains two gardens. Botany encompasses a range of disciplines such as Morphology, Anatomy, Taxonomy, Embryology, as well as applied branches like Medicinal Botany, Plant Tissue Culture, Plant Biotechnology, Biodiversity, and Molecular Biology. These branches of botany find extensive applications in diverse fields of research.

Objectives:

  • To disseminate and apply knowledge of plant science to everyday life for the betterment of society.
  • To educate the students about the importance of basic science in different fields of research, to inculcate good practical skills.
  • To acquaint the students with the flora by collecting, identifying and presenting specimens.
  • To foster awareness on the therapeutic values of medicinal plants in daily life.
