About:

The inception of the Department of Botany dates back to 1973. It boasts a meticulously maintained laboratory that is not only well-ventilated but also furnished with state-ofthe-art equipment, including LCD screens and internet connectivity. Furthermore, the department takes pride in its well-managed library,

ensuring that students have access to valuable resources. In addition to these facilities, the Department of Botany maintains two gardens. Botany encompasses a range of disciplines such as Morphology, Anatomy, Taxonomy, Embryology, as well as applied branches like Medicinal Botany, Plant Tissue Culture, Plant Biotechnology, Biodiversity, and Molecular Biology. These branches of botany find extensive applications in diverse fields of research.

Objectives:

To disseminate and apply knowledge of plant science to everyday life for the betterment of society.
To educate the students about the importance of basic science in different fields of research, to inculcate good practical skills.
To acquaint the students with the flora by collecting, identifying and presenting specimens.
To foster awareness on the therapeutic values of medicinal plants in daily life.
To create environmental awareness and conservation of biodiversity.
To initiate a process of learning new skills that ensures employability.

Faculty Achievements

Faculty M. Padmasri has written a text book “Plant Anatomy& Embryology” published by S Publishers with ISBN no. 978-93-93401-08-3.
Faculty M. Padmasri has written a book title PADA PADMALU with ISBN no. 978-81-920885-4-9 educational poetry, launched by M.P.Konda Vishweshar Reddy on the occasion of college day.
Faculty B. Sandhya Kumari Gupta has presented an oral paper at the National Conference on Sustainable Technologies in Chemical-Biological Systems (STCBS) on the topic “Methods for the extraction of microplastics from environmental samples” and it has been published in the proceedings of the Conference on Sustainable Technologies in Chemical-Biological Systems – STCBS2023 with ISBN: 978-81-926425-8-1. The presentation also received the “Best Paper Award”.

Students Achievements

3 Students of Botany did full time 3 months internship with stipend Rs. 5,000 per month from June to December 2023 at National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), Hyderabad and got placed as a technical trainee in Dr. Reddy’s.
3 Students of botany did 3 months internship from 6/12/2021 to 31/03/22 at ICRISAT, Hyderabad.
10 students of Botany, every year do 1 week internship program on integrated pest management (IPM) products at AMITYNA AGRITECH PVT LTD.
Mahek 2 yr. student won the second prize in poster coemptions in 2-day National Seminar on title Science and Technology in India- achievements & challenges organized by Department of Botany, UCS, Osmania University Hyderabad
Kavita Kumari secured 11th rank in M.Sc. Botany CPGET -2022.
G. Sridevi secured 8th rank in Hyderabad Central University entrance exam during the year 2021.
