Establishment and Overview

The Department of Hindi (UG) at Kasturba Gandhi Degree and PG College for Women, Secunderabad was established in the year 1973. Since its inception, the department has been offering Hindi as a second language for all undergraduate students. Over the decades, it has played a vital role in promoting Hindi language and literature among students from diverse backgrounds.

Motto and Objectives of the Hindi Department

The department is committed to academic excellence, cultural enrichment, and linguistic empowerment. Its motto reflects the values of knowledge, inclusivity, and national integration through the promotion of Hindi.

The key objectives of the department include:

Enhancing Hindi Language Proficiency: Enabling students to develop strong reading, writing, and speaking skills in Hindi.

Promoting Literary Awareness: Introducing students to the richness of Hindi literature, including poetry, prose, and drama.

Encouraging Research and Critical Thinking: Motivating students to explore Hindi literary texts from historical, social, and cultural perspectives.

Fostering National and Cultural Identity: Strengthening the role of Hindi in national integration and cultural awareness.

Skill Development: Equipping students with Hindi communication skills for career opportunities in journalism, translation, content writing, and academia.

Present Head of the Department

The current Head of the Department (HOD) is Ms. Amrita,(MA Hindi) an experienced and dedicated faculty member who has been instrumental in advancing the department’s academic and extracurricular initiatives.

Hindi literature is deeply rooted in Indian culture. The National language is that single thread which helps in unifying people from the diverse cultures of our country. Hindi as a second language was introduced in the year 1973,

the year the college was established. Mrs. Sharmishtha who was the first member of the Department and Dr. Sharada Contributed significantly to the development of the Hindi department. The department has grown, keeping pace with the needs of the college and is presently headed by Dr. P. Sunita. Dr.P. Sunita has been appointed as Incharge Principal on 1st April 2019 and Ms. Seema is appointed for the department. The faculty encourage students to participate in academics, literary and cultural activities in the institution and also accompanies students to other institutions where such competitions are held. The number of students taking part and winning has seen a rise in the recent past.

Achievements Of The Department

Faculty Achievements

  • Dr. P. Sunita presented a paper on “Mahamari Ke Virudhh Sahityik Pratikriya: Bhoot aur Vartaman”, in a two day National E-Conference on “Language and Literature” organized by Sarojini Naidu Vanita Mahavidyala on 28th and 29th May 2020.
  • Dr. P Sunita was invited to speak on ‘Women&Safety’ at Police Commissioneriate office. Hyd on 19th December 2019.

  • Dr. P. Sunita served as academic coordinator from the year 2012-2013 & 2014-2015 and also served as a chief Superintendent for the academic year 2016-2017, Semester examinations.
  • Dr. Sunita attended three refresher courses and one orientation course conducted by Academic Staff College, Osmania University.

  • Presented a paper titled “Bhasasamaj Aur samkallen sahitya Mein Naari ki Aarthik Samasya” organized by UGC & Dept of Hindi, Shikshan Maharshi Gnandev Mohekar, Maha Vidyalaya, Kalam and also published the article in National journal “Bhasa samaj Aur Samkallen sahitya” Aditya,Prakashan, Rajgarh office, Latur, ISBN No:978-93-83109-30-2 in January 2017.
  • Presented a paper titled “Manavadikar aur Siksha” organized by UGC,Abhudaya Prachya Sandhya, Maha vidyalaya and also published the paper in the national journal “Manvadikar aur Shaikshik Sevayen” Minind Praskashan with ISBN No:81-86970-71-7 in August 2016.
  • Published a paper titled “Dhaksh in Bhartiya Kaviyon ke kavya mein Rastriya chetana” in the journal “Samanvaya Dhakshin,Kshetriya Nideshak Kendriya Hindi Sansthan”, Hyderabad in January 2017.
  • Presented a National paper titled “Bhartiya Bhashoan ki Samridd hi ke bina bharat ki vastavik azadi nahin” organized by Shiksha Sanskriti, Utthan Nayas, Delhi & Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeet, Tirupathi in October 2016.
  • Presented an International Paper titled “Dwivedi yugeen sahitya mein samajik nyaya” organized by Department of Hindi, Andhra University, Vishakhapatnam in January 2013.

Faculty Achievements

  • Ms. C. Suchitra of BSc I year, secured first prize in Hindi Elocution, organized by Dakshin Bharat Hindi Prachaar Sabha, Khairtabad on 14 Sep 2019 on the occasion of Hindi Diwas.
  • Hindi Hain Hum Vishwa Maitree Manch has conducted Inter Collegiate Elocution competition, on the occasion of Antar Rashtriya Hindi Diwas on 10/01/2020, Ms. Kavita Kumari of BSc I year, has secured second prize in the competition.
  • 'Vidyanjali 'has conducted an Inter Collegiate Elocution Competition on 9th Jan 2020, Ms.Kavita Kumari of BSc I year had won first prize in Elocution Competition.
  • Aarya Samaj, Warasiguda, Secunderbad has conducted Elocution Competition, Ms. Soumaya of BSc II year has secured second prize in the competition.

Moment Of Pride

On the occasion of Global convention on under privileged in India, organized by All India Sc/St Rights Protection Society, Hyderabad, Shri Eatala Rajender Garu Hon’ble Health & Medical minister , had felicitated Dr P Sunita on 18 aug 2019 , for her selfless services to the society.

Organized a FDP on ‘Using ICT for Effective Teaching with Learning Management System”, by retired prof M Venkateswara (formerly Head Dept of Hindi, Arts college, O U, Principal Arts College O.U, Head Dept. of India Studies, English & Foreign language University Hyd ) on 18th December 2019.

Department of Hindi Organized a Field trip to Salar Jung Museum on 2nd June 2024.

1. A guest lecture on the topic "Hindi Language and Employment Opportunities," delivered by Prof. T.J. Rekha Rani (Speaker and Chairperson at the English and Foreign Language University), was organized on the occasion of Hindi Diwas in September 2023.

2. Guest lecture was organised on the occasion of ‘Hindi diwas’ on 13th September 2023, on the topic “Women safety challenges and solutions”. The guest speaker was Dr. Sangeetha Vyas,Professor,Department of Hindi,Osmania University.

Organized a guest lecture on occasion of Hindi-Diwas by Dr Pankaja Mehata on 14th September 2019. The department of library science had organized Hindi Books exhibition for the staff & students.

Organizes Annual literary and cultural competitions like Essay writing, Elocution, Poetry recitation and Antakshari.

Students contributes their original work to the college magazine under the guidance of the faculty.

  • Identifying the continuously flowing stream of literature by understanding the mutual relations of the creative writers of various genres of literature.
  • Expression of creativity to personality.
  • Establishing moral, social and human values.
  • To instill emotions like love, hope, faith, enthusiasm, sacrifice, courage and patience.

  • As part of Golden Jubilee celebrations, students participated in Hindi Anthakshari competition and won cash prizes and certificates.

  • Osmania Graduates Association Organised a seminar on “Prospects of Higher Education India” in the context of NEP – 2020 on 16th April 2024.
  • Ms.Amrita attended a Faculty development programme on “Plagiarism:Detection, Control and legal implications”. Organised by KIRC and IQAC on 22nd November 2024.
  • Attended a National seminar on “Women Empowerment and entrepreneurship:Vision Vikasit Bharat @ 2047”. Organised by KIRC & IQAC.

Literary Club Activity

  • As a part of Literary club activity a movie titled “ TARLA DALAL” was shown to all the first year Hindi students, in Silver Jubilee block Auditorium on 24th August 2023.
  • As part of the Literary club activity ,a Skit competition was organized and the topic was “Strong Women safer world, Empowering women through awareness and action” on 22nd January 2025.
  • Attended a National seminar on “Women Empowerment and entrepreneurship:Vision Vikasit Bharat @ 2047”. Organised by KIRC & IQAC.

Department Assembly:

  • The Department of Hindi has conducted the college assembly on ‘Our culture and civilization is our identity’ on 14th August 2023.
  • Students demonstrated on Hindi ka Mahatva,Hindi Bhasha par ek kavita aur uska Mahatv in college Assembly on 3rd February 2024.
