Kasturba Vanavatika was inaugurated on 15th December 2020. The chief guest for the inauguration function was Mr. S.N. Umakanth, Chief Manager, WOW ITC’s CSR initiative. The Principal, Vice-Principal, faculty and students of the college were part of the inauguration function.
Vanavatika Garden plays a significant role in college campus both for its aesthetic and practical values. The significance of the park is to nurture the flora and fauna of the campus and provide a fresh atmosphere to Kasturbans.
The garden provide students with an opportunity to learn about plants, wildlife and the environment. The Vanavatika Garden promotes sustainable practices such as composting, rainwater harvesting, recycling of solid waste and gardening. These practices help reduce the college environmental impact and provide opportunities for students to learn about sustainable living. The Vanavatika also promotes community building where the faculty and students come together for conducting various programmes and imparting this knowledge to the community outside.
The garden consists of Herbal plants and other plants & tree varieties.
The maintenance activities include: Watering, Regular pruning, Manuring, Weeding, Sweeping, Disposal of garden refuse and Plant protection from pests and diseases etc.
During the inauguration the college has signed a MoU with ITC’s agency for recycling the paper and plastic waste.

Vanavatika conducts various activities on sustainable living, a few are mentioned here.
On a daily basis the kitchen green waste is added to the composting pit. The college maintains a daily record of the kitchen waste collected. The collected manure is then feed to the plants for their voluminous growth.
The team organizes the annual Haritha Haram program, which is a part of Telangana Government Initiative. As a part of this program the college every year plants various species and also started the Kitchen Garden. The motto of the college is Each One Plant One. The team also participates in other government initiative like Green India Challenge.
The team conducted the Bio-Awareness program on National Science Day. As a part of the awareness Nukkad on Environment, Exhibits on Medicinal and Endangered Species with a PowerPoint presentation on the activities of Vanavatika were conducted.
The team regularly conducts the disposal of solid waste like paper and plastic and E-waste when sufficient quantity is collected. The students and faculty enthusiastically participate in this activity. The aim is to achieve zero waste in the near future.
Prominent commemorative days like World Environment Day, World Water Day, World Forest Day, and Energy Conservation Day etc are observed. Various activities like skit on alternate sources of energy, competition on saving earth, creating small habitats for birds in the garden, increasing ground water table level are conducted.
The team Vanavatika regularly conducts community reach programs to nearby school children, during this awareness on, Ganesh Festival, energy conservation, harmful effects of plastic and air pollution are taken as a priority topic and is discussed with them.
The Green club is a voluntary group comprising of students. The students can learn more about the environment issue and take steps or immediate action against the prevailing situation. The teachers in the club create awareness and promotes participation of students in learning and working towards the conservation and sustainability of their environment. The Green Club of the College was formed with an intention to bring consciousness and sensitivity amongst student community about the Global Environmental hazards caused due to numerous reasons having a direct impact on the current and next generation to come. The club not only imparts knowledge on individuals but also on social groups, where everybody as a community lives. The club and its associated activities started on 19th Nov 2013. The club has performed various interesting events through all the academic years starting from 2013.
The Haritha Haram is an annual planting of saplings program in the college premises. It is a government of Telangana flagship program. The program is conducted every year in the college and the trend continues. GHMC Commissioner Dr.B.Janardhan Reddy was the guest during one of the Haritha Haram event and promoted the concept of Each One Plant One. Many flowering plants were planted in and around the college campus.
Eco-Friendly Ganesh Stall is also an annual event of the college where the students of the club educate others on the importance of buying clay ganeshas. The stall is placed in the college premises every year for easy buying of the clay idols by the students and faculty.
This program is conducted as a follow-up of organizing a sale of eco-friendly Ganesh idols in the campus every year. The concept of teaching Bucket Immersion to the current generation is very important and safe guarding the lakes in the city from chemicals and Plaster of Paris (POP) is of utmost importance. The students of the club immerse the clay idols of ganeshas in the bucket to symbolize the event.
The Students of the club organized an awareness program on many topics pertaining to environmental concerns. The Students as a first outreach program went to a nearby Junior College (Tagore College, Secunderabad) and educated the students regarding the same and in turn asked the students of the junior college to do their part by spreading the awareness to others. The program was conducted on 20th January 2020.
The Institution of Engineers (India), Telangana State Centre organized a week long programme on Energy Conservation starting from 14-12-2019 to 20-12-2019. Students from various Educational Institutions attended the function. The students of our college participated in the one week program which includes talk on energy conservation, energy conservation walk and many and on the concluding day of the week they presented posters regarding the energy conservation theme and won the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes.
The GHMC officials visited the college and campaigned on the Swachh Telangana concept. They committee from GHMC had given very valuable and important suggestions to the students who are the next generation to take up the environmental issues and lead such campaigns. The program was conducted on 1st January 2020.
This program was conducted before the Ganesh Chaturthi festival. The students of the club created awareness among their fellow students the importance of buying Clay Ganeshas and also making their own paper mache , flour Ganeshas etc. The program was conducted on 28th August 2019.
The club conducted an Elocution Competition on the topic “Swachh Kasturba”. The main aim of the event was to get effective suggestions from the students to keep the campus clean and green. The program was conducted on 30th January 2019.
The competition was on the concept of segregating the waste. The competition was conducted in a fun way, were students have to sort the given chits in to dry waste, wet waste, e-waste or Hazardous waste. Many students participated and GHMC officials also joined the competition. The program was conducted on 10th January 2018.
GHMC awarded the Swachhata Ranking to our college in the month of October 2017. The award was given in the presence of GHMC commissioner Dr.B.Janardhan Reddy.
