The Department of Economics was established in November 1973 . The college introduced Economics as one of the optional subjects with 2 course combinations viz., 1. Economics, Public Administration & Political Science 2. Economics , Sociology & English Literature. The syllabus of the B.A. degree course (CBCS) has marketability after graduation at both National and International level. The vision of the department is to see that the students perform extremely well in the career they pursue. Teaching Techniques:

  • Mrs. A. Dhana Lakshmi was awarded Ph. D degree in June 2018 by the Dept. of Economics, Osmania University.
  • Dr. A. Dhana Lakshmi co-authored various books for B.Com English and Telugu medium students, published by Kalyani publishers.
  • Dr. A. Dhana Lakshmi, Head, Dept. of Economics, gave Guest Lecture in Sardar Patel College, Padma Rao Nager in December 2018

  • B.A. Students participated in a two day national workshop on the topic “ Gender Equality and Leadership - Opportunities & Innovation” at University College for Women, Koti in the month of March,2020.
  • B.A. Students participated and Juveria Taqveen of III year won 1st prize in a poster competition on the occasion of Women’s day celebrations at St.Ann's Women's College, 2019.
  • K.Hima Bindu of B.A. III year got selected for the district level youth parliament in February, 2019.
  • B.A. Students participated and won 1st and 2nd Prizes in Powerpoint presentation in a two day intercollegiate seminar on “Human Rights” conducted by St.Ann’s College Mehdipatnam, 2018.
  • The students participated in an interdisciplinary debate activity on the topic “GST : A new developmental policy in Modi Government” in Kasturba Gandhi Degree & P.G. College for women in the month of June 2017.
  • Students took part in Mock Parliament conducted by Vanitha Mahavidyalaya on 27th February,2017.

The Department in combination with IQAC conducted a webinar with the theme “Post Lockdown Effect of COVID-19 on Indian Economy” on 14th May, 2020. Dr.A.Nakula Reddy, Professor, Department of Economics, Osmania University was invited as Guest Speaker for the webinar.

  • The department organised Gueest lecture on the "Importance of Statistical Tools used in Economic Research", as an interdepartmentalactiity with Commerce department
