Department of English and Modern language was started in the year 1973 with the main intention of imparting English language and literature education to women. Its primary aim is to empower girls with good command over the English language and prepare them for the society. Department of English tries to encourage and prepare the students of Kasturba Gandhi Degree College for women with good communication and interpersonal skills, ability to speak correct English to face a wide variety of professional opportunities across the globe. the faculty of English is ready to integrate technology by taking online classes whenever there was a need and also by customizing the teaching-learning materials. Department of English strictly adheres to the norms of Osmania University and follows the prescribed syllabus for both English and Modern language (English Literature) given by the University.

An inter-departmental activity was conducted along with department of Sociology and the students were taken to Hyderabad Literary festival.
Essay writing and Elocution Competition –October 2018(Andhra Bank Vigilance Week) Andhra Bank conducted Essay writing and Elocution competition, as part of the Vigilance week celebrations. The topic was 'Eradicate corruption-Build a new India'. Our college was selected among 350 schools and colleges in twin cities to represent and the winners were given the prizes at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.
Ms.Supriya Dasari won the Governor award for the best essay in Essay writing competition conducted as part of AZADI KA AMRIT MAHOTSAV.Her essay was titled as on 15th August 2022.
An Online National Webinar was held on 02 June 2020 titled as ‘Effective Communication Skills amidst COVID19’.The speaker was Dr.Angela Moorjani(Retired Associate Professor,Kasturba Gandhi Degree and PG College for Women)
An international webinar was conducted online for all the students on the 5th of July 2021.The topic was ‘Role of English Language and Literature in Today's society’.
As part of ‘VIDYANJALI’ programme, to pay tributes to our former Principal Dr.VidyaRani,Elocution competition was held on 23rd December 2019.The topic was ‘Youth and Social Values, Prize distribution ceremony was held on 10th January 2020.
An extension lecture was organized for students of B.A.,BCom., and BSc I and II Year students on 26th September 2019.Retired Professor Dr.Nagaraju spoke on the topic ‘English for Career’
